Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has said that he is disappointed that his side failed to beat Chelsea after the current Premier League leaders fought back to beat them 2-1 and reach the League Cup quarterfinals.
Chelsea struggled to make an impact in the first half against a well organised Shrewsbury defence, but took the lead after the break when Didier Drogba swept in a half-volley in the 48th minute.
However, Shrewsbury scored a deserved equaliser 13 minutes from time when substitute Andy Mangan stabbed in. But the joy was short-lived as Jermaine Grandison turned in Willian's cross, just nine minutes from full time, The BBC reported.
Mellon said that they have had an amazing Cup adventure and made a lot of friends along the way, but they are out. He said that his side has played in a way that has been pleasing on the eye and beat some very good teams.
But, he added that he is hugely disappointed because they pegged it back to 1-1. And he also said that he can't believe he is standing there actually saying that he is disappointed Shrewsbury has not beaten Chelsea, but, added that he couldn't be more proud of the players.
Mellon said that Chelsea is bringing on 300 million pounds of talent but added that they caused them all sorts of problems and one has to give his players unbelievable credit for that.
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho agreed that he was worried when Shrewsbury equalised but added that his side got through and Drogba played a massive part in that.
Mourinho also said that hopefully Drogba would be good for the weekend but added that they would have to see because right now his character is stronger than his body.
