Mamta Sharma , former chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) today said that mere suspension of an accused is not a remedy, further measures need to be taken.

She was referring to the suspension of accused Sunil Paraskar Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Maharashtra.

Speaking to ANI, Sharma said, "I have said this many times that mere suspension is not the remedy, his promotions should be stopped and based on the report by the investigation committee he can also be dismissed".

She also added, "It is a good thing that the DIG has been suspended. I have always maintained that in such cases steps must be taken immediately. Such a big model cannot falsely accuse a DIG of molesting her".

Commenting on the same issue, NCW member Shamina Shafiq said, "It is very good news and it should have been done before. We must understand that no woman raises the voice until the exploitation becomes unbearable".

On July 23, a 25-year-old model had reportedly lodged a complaint against Sunil Paraskar, accusing him of raping and molesting her between November 2013 and March 2014. He was posted as the Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) with the Mumbai police during that time.
