The Meteorological Department declared Monday as the foggiest day of the season so far, adding that the conditions are likely to prevail over the next few days.
"New Delhi today saw high amounts of fog because the humidity in the region has increased. At the same time, the Easterly winds had hit the region and the temperatures had dropped to four degrees Celsius. Along with New Delhi, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have also witnessed large amounts of fog. Today was the densest fog seen so far this season," BP Yadav of the Meteorological Department told ANI.
"The present conditions are because of light snowfall that certain parts of Jammu and Kashmir are facing. In general, the foggy conditions will continue for the next few days. Temperatures will remain low for the entire month of January," he added.
Dense foggy conditions severely affected rail and air transport, with around two dozen of domestic and International flights and more than 50 New Delhi bound trains reportedly rescheduled or running late.
