Mexican midfielder Andres Guardado scored twice on penalty kicks to give his side a 2-1 extra-time triumph over 10-man Panama in a controversial Concacaf Gold Cup semi-final.
Roman Torres put Panama ahead in the 57th minute of the match before Guardado scored an equalizer one minute before the full quota of 90 minutes, the BBC reported.
Guardado added his second goal in the 30 minute of extra time after Panama's Herold Cummings fouled Mexico's Javier Orozco in the penalty area.
Players were seen clashing with each other and items being thrown from the stands as Mexico sealed their berth in the final where they would be facing surprise finalists Jamaica.
Dejected with the loss, Panama players charged at the match officials at the end of the match. The officials were later on escorted safely by the guards present in the stadium.
Meanwhile, Jamaica became the first Caribbean side to reach the Gold Cup final with a surprise 2-1 win over United States.
