Mexico set up last-16 fixture against Netherlands post 3-1 Croatia win

Mexico have advanced to the last-16 of the FIFA World Cup tied against the Netherlands after they knocked out Croatia with a 3-1 victory in their final match of Group A.

After a goalless first half, Mexico found the net first as Rafael Marquez scored a goal in the 72nd minute followed by two more goals from forward Andres Guardado and Javier Hernandez in the 75th and 82nd minute to give Miguel Herrera's side with a 3-0 lead.

Croatia were saved from a humiliating 3-0 defeat, thanks to their midfielder Ivan Perisic netting the ball just 3 minutes before full time to end the match at 3-1, The BBC reported.

 

Herrera said that Mexico overcame the first hurdle and they are happy, adding that it is one of the happiest days of his life.

Herrera said that it was a hard fight, but his team pulled through, adding that they would have to start thinking of their match against Netherlands now.
