The Malaysian government has closed the case of the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 by saying that it was an accident and there were no survivors.

A search operation to locate the plane's debris in the southern part of the Indian Ocean has been going on for months but no trace of the aircraft has been found since it disappeared on March 8 2014, reported the BBC.

Officials said that the recovery operation will continue but the 239 people onboard are now presumed dead.

The declaration should allow compensation payments to relatives of the victims.
