MH370: Robot submarine to extend search beyond target area

A robotic submarine, scouring the Indian Ocean floor for missing Malaysia Airline flight debris, will reportedly extend its sea bed search area.

The search for the ill-fated jet is said to end soon, with no substantial clues of the MH370 found yet.

According to News 24, while the search area is a circle with a 10km radius, 4.5km deep off the west Australian coast, the sub was expected to complete the focused underwater search area and continue examining the areas adjacent to it, the search coordination center said in a statement.

Last week, Australian Defence Minister David Johnston said that an announcement on the next phase of the search for the flight was to be made this week, adding that the next phase was likely to deploy more powerful side-scan sonar equipment that can delve deeper than the Bluefin 21.

The Malaysia Airline flight vanished with 239 passengers on board on 8 March during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
