Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said the Home Ministry has sought additional information from the Jammu and Kashmir Government on the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam.
"The Home Ministry has sought additional information about the [release of Masarat Alam]. The situation is unclear, because, we have not received any further additional information," Rijiju told the media here.
On Monday, the Lok Sabha session was briefly adjourned after opposition parties tore into the BJP led-NDA government over the release of Alam.
Alam was released from the Baramulla prison following the new Jammu and Kashmir government's policy to free political prisoners who do not face criminal charges.
He is the chairman of Muslim League, a constituent of hard-line Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and is widely seen as the latter's successor.
He had been convicted for organising anti-India protests and stone pelting across the Kashmir Valley in 2010, which had resulted in the death of 112 people.
