Michelle Obama has reportedly taken up tai chi on her tour of China as a distraction from the discord in her East Wing office in White House.

Former White House press assistant Reid Cherlin has written in The New Republic that the First Lady's office can be a confining, frustrating, even miserable place to work, the New York Post reported.

Cherlin, who worked on Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, has claimed that jealousy and discontentment have festered, as courtiers squabble over the allocation of responsibility and access to Mrs. Obama, both of which can be aggravatingly scarce.

Another former staff member said that it would take a really creative staffer to work within that environment and be successful.
