US President Barack Obama's wife Michelle Obama opened Special Olympics World Games on July 25 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and welcomed around 6,500 athletes from 165 countries.
The US First Lady said that she and her President husband love them and are proud of them and their determination as they were an example to the millions of people watching the event on television, ABC News reported.
Notably, POTUS welcomed the athletes by a video earlier.
Other than this, there were fireworks and musical performances by Avril Lavigne, Stevie Wonder, Colombian reggaeton artist J Balvin and others.
However, Special Olympics promote athletes with intellectual disabilities, and this year athletes will participate in 25 sports over nine days, ranging from weightlifting to the triathlon.
