Soul singer James Brown's life and music career will soon be seen on the big screen in a biopic that has been produced by Mick Jagger.

The film, due to begin shooting in the US this year, is going to be directed by Tate Taylor, and Brown will be portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, who has portrayed Jackie Robinson in the film 42, the BBC reported.

According to Hollywood trade magazine The Wrap, Boseman is going to portray Brown over a period of several years, from his impoverished youth in Georgia to becoming one of the founding fathers of funk music.

The biopic was in development hell for years, with various actors and directors attached.

Taylor will also reportedly reuniting with Viola Davis, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Nelsan Ellis - three of the stars of 'The Help' - on the project.

The film will be releasing in the UK on September 13.
