Top military brass tried to keep bored Prince Harry in the army by offering him the long-awaited spot on frontline.
Sources have revealed that the 30-year-old is the most famous soldier in the British Army and is the best recruitment tool they could ask for, the Daily Star reported.
Army chiefs wanted to offer him a frontline position in D Squadron of the Household Cavalry, an elite troop of men trained to parachute behind enemy lines ahead of assault forces.
But the idea was dropped because it would have put the Queen's grandson in too much danger if he had ever been called into serious action. Despite being tempted with other choice military roles, Harry announced in March that he was quitting.
