Millions of people across France are holding rallies in Paris and other French cities following the deadly attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's headquarters last week.

According to BBC, the rally began at the Place de la Republique and concluded in the Place de la Nation, led by the relatives of the victims of last week's attacks.

Around 3.5 million people have taken to the streets across the country with up to 1.6 million only in the French capital.

Rallies also took place in London, Washington, Montreal and Berlin where thousands of people gathered.

French leader Francois Hollande said that Paris was the world capital today.

The beginning of the rally was joined by world leaders, British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, EU President Donald Tusk, and Jordan's King Abdullah II.
