Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis on Saturday suffered a serious blow to their French Open hopes as they went down in straight sets in the final of the women's doubles event of the Madrid Masters.
The fifth seeded pair of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic defeated the top seeded pair of Mirza and Hingis 6-4, 6-4 in a match that lasted for one hour and 24 minutes.
This is the second consecutive final loss for the Indo-Swiss pair to the French pair after having succumbed in the Stuttgart Open summit clash as well.
However, there is still another chance for an Indian to win a Madrid title this year as Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea reached the men's doubles semi-finals late on Friday.
The defending champions beat Henri Kontinen and John Peers, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
