The police say that the murder of Miss Honduras and her sister was an "act of passion" by a jealous boyfriend at a birthday party.
Maria Jose Alvarado, 19, and her sister, Sofia Trinidad Hernandez, 23, were reportedly shot to death and buried in a river bank in the mountains
According to USA Today, Sofia, who won her title in April, went missing along with her sister last week only three days before they were to leave for London for the Miss World competition.
Sofia's lover, Plutarco Antonio Ruiz, 26, confessed to the murders and led authorities to the spot where he had buried the bodies, Gen. Ramon Sabillon, the Honduras National Police director said.
The duo were killed by Ruiz after he got angry that Sofia was dancing with another man at his birthday party at a local spa on Thursday, witnesses have revealed.
Ruiz allegedly shot Sofia to death then killed Alvarado when she tried to flee, the report said.
