Michael Jackson's former Head of Security has testified in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by the singer's family against concert promoter AEG Live, claiming that kids of the late singer thought their dad had died of an overdose eight years before drug addiction killed him.

Michael La Perruque said that the children were "crying, saying they couldn't wake up daddy" and were inconsolable after they found him in the hallway of their hotel suite at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in 2001, the Mirror reported.

Perruque made the revelation at a Los Angeles Superior Court, where the King of Pop's mum Katherine Jackson and his children are suing AEG Live for 100million pounds, claiming that the concert promoter negligently hired and supervised Dr Conrad Murray.

Giving evidence for AEG, the former security chief told the court that Jackson often appeared under the influence of drugs and he feared the star would suffer an overdose.

La Perruque told the court that he believed the collapse was drug-related.

He also claimed that he never saw the late singer take medication.
