Taking a dig at Congress party on the issue of secularism, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday accused UPA chairperson Congress President Sonia Gandhi of adding a communal color to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a rally here, the Gujarat Chief Minister said, "The Congress is making every effort to communalise the polls. It is worried about giving answers and that is why they are saying one thing - secularism, secularism, secularism."
They don't have any answer on corruption, employment and other issue. That's why they always talk about secularism. Congress is defeated. So now from 'secularism' they have moved to open communalism," Modi added.
He further urged the Election Commission to take suo motto action against Sonia for appealing for votes on religious lines and trying to polarise the elections.
"To ask for vote in the name of community is against the code of conduct; shouldn't there be action against her(Sonia Gandhi)?", he asked.
Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday made a strong appeal to minorities ahead of general election, pitching to help nurture the cause of secularism and met Muslim delegation led by Delhi's Jama Masjid Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari.
