Kick starting his 'chai pe charcha' nation-wide campaign from Ahmedabad, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India should implement strict laws to counter the threat of terrorism.

"We should have the strictest laws on internal security. America had enacted some of the toughest laws after the 9/11. We should also enact similar laws in the country. The government should have a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. The terrorists should be brought to justice without any delay," he said.

He also emphasized on the use of modern technology to handle the threat of terrorism and said we need to be two steps ahead of the terrorists.

Commenting on the law and order situation across the states in the country, Modi said, "Law and order is important for good governance. In our constitution, it is the duty of the state to maintain the law and order situation."

He also said the Central government should not interfere in the matters of the state government but it should help out the states in the areas where training or resources are needed.

"Whenever there is a bomb blast, the Centre and the State government starts fighting over the intelligence inputs. Because of such fights between the centre and the state, the enemies of the country get their chance to strike again. " said the Gujarat Chief Minister.

He also said that Uttar Pradesh has a lot to offer in terms of tourism and crores of people attend Kumbh Mela every year.

"If law and order situation is poor, then tourists will refrain from visiting such places," he added.
