Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Wednesday cast his vote in Gujarat's Ahmedabad constituency and described elections as something similar to a festival.

"Today is voting day in Gujarat and in some other states as well; its like a festival of democracy. I thank the voters of Gujarat for ensuring that the whole election process passed of successfully and peacefully," Modi said in a press conference after casting his vote.

Modi apologised for not being able to devote much time for campaigning in Gujarat.

"I would like to say sorry to the people of Gujarat, for not being able to devote them a lot of time like in earlier elections," Modi added.

He stated that today was an important day as the new state of Telangana will also be deciding its future.

Modi remarked that two things are certain as of now-that the mother-son (Sonia Gandhi-Rahul Gandhi) Government is gone, and second, that the foundation for a new stable Government has been laid. There is no confusion that a BJP-led government will be in place at the centre.
