Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is cheating the people and trying to gain sympathy by calling himself a victim of caste discrimination.
"He is saying that he comes from a backward class so people are targeting him. What about the riots and killings that he promotes? Is he coming from a backward class to do all this?" asked Lalu.
"He is cheating the people and just trying to gain their sympathy for garnering votes. Now, why would anyone vote for a cheater?" he asked.
Earlier in the day, Modi tweeted claiming that he was targeted as he belonged to a backward class.
In reply to Congress president, Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's barb aimed at him for practicing 'low-level' of politics yesterday, Modi has tweeted stating that he was targeted as he belonged to a backward caste, "I belong to lower caste of society, that is why they think my politics is 'low-level' politics."
While campaigning for BJP candidate Smriti Irani in Amethi on Monday, Modi accused the Congress party of being arrogant, and criticised former prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi, for being arrogant, reminding the public as to how he publicly humiliated former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, T. Anjaiah at airport when Rajiv Gandhi was a General Secretary of the party.
Hitting back at Modi, Priyanka had said, "They have insulted my martyred father on the soil of Amethi. People of Amethi will never forgive them for this act. Workers in Amethi will reply to their (BJP's) low-level politics. There will be reply from each of the booths.
