Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Shivanand Tiwari on Tuesday lashed out at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and said that his Uttarakhand visit was a cheap publicity stunt.

"We do not believe in cheap publicity like what Narendra Modi did trying to be a superhero. The Bharatiya Janata Party is hence cheap and just not responsible. Why is Narendra Modi getting desperate? The Lok Sabha elections are next year so the truth will come to the fore," he said.

Tiwari's criticism of Modi comes just days after the end of a 17-year-old alliance between the Janata Dal (United) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Modi had last month visited the flood-ravaged state of Uttarakhand, where thousands have lost their lives following the natural calamity. A newspaper report then said that Modi rescued 15,000 Gujarat is in a 'Rambo act'.
