Gujarat Chief Minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will address a party rally here today.

The holding of the rally in Kanpur, which is widely regarded as a bastion of the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS), is being projected as a crucial strategic move to snare as many Lok Sabha seats as possible out of the total 80 seats that are up for grabs in Uttar Pradesh during next year's general election.

A CNN-IBN election survey conducted in July 2013, has said that the BJP is likely get a vote share of 27 per cent in Uttar Pradesh, and can be expected to win between 29 and 33 seats.

Kanpur has been decked with posters, hoardings, bunting and banners that give details of the rally and its venue-the social welfare department ground opposite the Gautam Buddha Park in Indiranagar.

Modi is expected to arrive by helicopter at around 1 p.m. after a brief stopover at Lucknow's Amausi Airport.
