The mortal remains of the 13-year-old girl, who was killed after being allegedly pushed off a moving bus along with her mother for resisting a molestation bid, were cremated in her hometown Moga on Sunday.

The last rites took place after the police conducted a post mortem of the girl's body.

The girl's family members had earlier refused to cremate her, saying they wanted justice from the state government.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court will take up the hearing of the case on Monday.

The court agreed to hear the case after taking suo motu cognisance of a letter written to it on the incident.

Earlier in the day, the Punjab Police said they had shared the details of the fair and transparent investigation into the Moga incident with the victims' family, which was under the misapprehension that they had not filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the case.

The incident led to widespread outrage and a ban on the Orbit Company's buses by the Punjab government.

The bus in which the crime took place reportedly belonged to Orbit Transport Company, owned by Orbit Aviation Pvt Ltd, which is co-owned by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
