The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that former interim coach Mohsin Khan is 'free' to take his grievance regarding the appointment of fast bowling legend Waqar Younis as head coach to the court.

Khan slammed PCB's decision to hand Younis a two-year contract for a second stint in the top job without interviewing other 'more deserving' applicants, including him, and he is now likely to challenge the appointment in court.

However, PCB management committee member Zaheer Abbas defended Younis' appointment, saying the former player, who previously held the job of national team coach from February 2010 to September 2011, is 'better suited to take the team forward', adding that they are well-aware of Younis' strengths and weaknesses.

But PCB director Intikhab Alam said that Khan had the right to take his case to the court, although he added that the PCB would not be joining him in any court battle.

Younis' first assignment will be a two Test and three one-day series in Sri Lanka in July-August this year, the report added.
