Moores prolongs Cook's CWC captaincy confirmation wait

England coach Peter Moores said that Alastair Cook will have to wait to know if he would captain the England team at next year's World Cup.

According to Sports 24, Cook's position as both captain and an opening batsman in one-day internationals has been a matter of debate after the team's recent 3-1 home ODI series defeat by world champions India.

While Moores is angered by the criticism coming Alastair's way, he has refrained from endorsing the Essex left-hander, saying that it would be wrong for him to name his preferred one-day captain before meeting the other three England selectors-panel chief James Whitaker, Middlesex coach Angus Fraser and Nottinghamshire boss Mick Newell-in a couple of weeks' time.

Cook invited flak for his comment that it was "far-fetched" to imagine England winning the World Cup at next year's edition in Australia and New Zealand.

However, Moores jumped to Cook's defense, saying that Alastair had scored more hundreds than any other England player since the last World Cup.

The coach said that he had a huge amount of respect for Alastair as a player and as a captain, adding that questioning of him as a cricketer has been unjust.
