Moradabad District Magistrate (DM) Deepak Agarwal met Uttar Pradesh (UP) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Laxmikant Bajpai while a protest was on outside his residence over a demand for a case to be filed against police officials who had misbehaved with party MLAs during the recent violence in the Kanth area.

"The detained MLAs have been sent back, but the paramilitary forces will remain deployed for a while," said Agarwal.

Earlier today, Bajpai had staged a sit down protest along with other BJP workers demanding an FIR o be lodged against Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharamvir Yadav, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anil Kumar, Circle Officer (CO) Rahul and their co-workers for their misbehavior with party MLAs during Kanth violence.

At the epicentre of the trouble in Moradabad is a temple in Muslim dominated Akbarpur village belonging to the Jatav community. Trouble started last month after a section of villagers protested against installation of a loudspeaker in the temple.
