The current state of security in Afghanistan has led to more than 1,000 schools across the country to be closed down.

Tole News quoted Acting Minister of Education Asadullah Mohaqiq, as saying that more than 1,000 schools are closed across the country due to insecurity.

He made these remarks while speaking in the Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament).

He said his ministry is trying to re-open the schools in insecure parts of Afghanistan.

Asserting the lack of text books and qualified teachers to be a problem in re-opening of schools, Mohaqiq said nearly 40,000 teachers were needed for the schools in the country.

According to the Ministry of Education, a recent study revealed that only six million Afghan children are at school.
