According to the BBC polls, more than half of the United Kingdom and the United States respondents think the combat operation in Afghanistan was worthless as the last UK troops leave the country.

The polls suggest that 68 percent in the UK said the operation was not worthwhile while in the U.S., the percentage was 51.

The end of the UK combat operations was announced on Sunday while the final troops left on Monday.

The BBC poll of 1,000 UK adults found that 42 percent of them believe that Britain was "less safe" as a consequence of the 13-year campaign while only 14 percent thought that the UK was safer.

Around 39 percent of respondents thought that there was "no real difference".
