The English media has said that batsman Eoin Morgan may be the key to bring out England from the morass surrounding their one-day game in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy after their unlucky loss during the first ODI at Lord's against New Zealand.

Although the Independent said that England has become formidable at home after a defeat by Australia four years ago and have recovered quickly from occasional indifference, they will have to atone to save themselves an ODI loss at Southampton, where they have won six of their nine matches.

The report further said that to regain their ODI prowess, England needed to take Morgan's help seeing that the batsman is long now on experience and skill, and has had a quiet time lately, with one fifty in his past 14 innings, two in his past 20.

However, the report said that the gambles that used to come off so charmingly are failing for the moment as Morgan's perky start in the Indian Premier League this season tailed off, and in his only innings for Middlesex last week he suffered a first-ball duck.

The report also added that Morgan has to grab England's middle order by the scruff in the next few days and propel it to the places it will take to win this series and the Champions Trophy which follows immediately the ODI series.
