Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh on Monday avoided comment on Congress General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed's remarks wherein he claimed that the 2002 Gujarat riots led to the formation of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM).
"If he is saying something. He is giving the tweets. Ask him. I have not even read his tweet. I don't even know what he has said," he told media here.
The Congress Party had earlier in the day distanced itself from Shakeel Ahmed's remarks.
"I don't think this is the official party line," said Congress spokesperson Renuka Choudhary.
Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Shakeel Ahmed yesterday claimed that it was the 2002 Gujarat riots that led to the formation of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen.
"Indian Mujahideen was formed after Gujarat riots, says NIA in its charge sheet. Even now BJP and RSS will not desist from their communal politics?" he tweeted, while referring to a chargesheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the serial blasts took place at Bodh Gaya in Bihar earlier this month.
