Most American citizens oppose America's direct involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine, a new poll revealed.
According to Politico, while 31 percent Americans believe that the nation's current foreign policy is correct, 34 percent said that the nation should be less involved.
Only 17 percent people think that the United States should do more to counter Russia's activities in Ukraine.
The poll also showed that more than three-quarters of likely voters believed that the U.S should withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by 2016 as opposed to 23 percent who disagreed.
Forty-four percent of American voters also said that America should be less involved in Iraq's civil war as against 19 percent who favored more involvement in the conflict. Twenty-three percent voters also said that the current level of engagement is apt.
About 42 percent Americans also prefer lesser involvement in the Syria conflict versus 15 percent who disagree.
The poll results also revealed that 39 percent voters trust Republicans more than Democrats on the issue of foreign policy. Only 32 percent said that they trust Democrats while 28 percent said that they don't know which party can be trusted.
With 89 percent respondents saying that foreign policy will have a strong influence on the elections this year, the survey showed that Americans are deeply concerned about issues of foreign policy and national security However, it is unclear how important will it be in determining the winner because when asked to name an issue that matters a lot to them, only 11 percent chose foreign affairs or terrorism.
The poll was completed before the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot over the Ukrainian border. The results were based on a survey that quizzed 834 likely voters in the U.S. House and Senate races, the report added.
