A new survey has revealed that women hold onto their knickers for at least 5 years.

According to the study by Asda's George label, six out of ten women admitted that they have undies dating back to at least 2009 and one in three wear faded, baggy drawers they know are "past their best", the Mirror reported.

The study indicated that nine out of ten prefer comfort over style with seamless pants top of the list for practicality.

Eight out of ten said they buy bargain pants rather than expensive, designer versions and on average spend 50 pounds a year on their smalls.

According to the Asda underwear map of Britain, Northern Irish and Midlands girls are the most likely to wear old pants while those in the South of England are tops for mis-matched underwear.
