A man in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh has alleged that his daughter-in-law died after giving birth to a stillborn child due to negligence by the hospital staff.

According to the man, the family took the daughter-in-law to the Mirzapur District Hospital on September 4, but moved her to a private facility as the doctors didn't attend to her for five hours.

However, she was referred back to the district hospital.

When they arrived at the hospital again on Friday, the man alleged that he had to carry the pregnant woman himself into the emergency ward from the auto rickshaw they had travelled in, as there were no stretchers available.

"Due to doctor's negligence, my daughter-in-law and her baby died," he told reporters.

He added that his efforts to save her didn't bear fruit because of the doctors' inaction.

However, the hospital authorities dismissed the allegations, saying that proper care was provided to the woman.

"The baby had died even before the woman was operated upon; there was no delay in delivery from our side," said Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Sanjay Pandey.

This is the sixth reported incident since August 25, when a tribal man, Dana Majhi, was forced to carry the body of his wife on his shoulders for nearly 10 kilometres in Odisha after he was denied a hearse by the district hospital authorities.
