Returning Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that the team he has inherited is lacking the mental strength necessary to become champions.

Chelsea is fifth in the football clubs' standings after their first six games, having won just one of their last four.

According to the Mirror, Mourinho lamented that the current Chelsea squad is not strong enough mentally to have the 'run of victory-victory-victory' that they need to become champions, adding that they have to score more goals, have a better defense and be more consistent from the beginning till the end of a game.

Stating that he needs to change the mentality of the players to make them feel and accept the responsibility of playing for a big club with big ambitions, Mourinho however, admitted that the mental stability he is seeking is hard to get, adding that he will have to rectify the mental flaws bequeathed to the club by its previous managers.

Chelsea was previously mentored by Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez, the report added.
