Manchester United boss David Moyes has backed Wayne Rooney to break the record of Old Trafford and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton as the club's all-time leading goalscorer now that he has signed a new deal with the club.
Rooney, who has signed a new 300,000 pounds-a-week deal with United for five years, is currently on 208 goals, 41 behind Charlton.
According to the Mirror, Moyes said the chance to write his name in the history books was a major factor in Rooney signing a new deal at United, adding that it is a temptation for him to be a legend at United given that he has associated with the club almost all his life.
Moyes further said that once a player enters the club, he does not leave quickly as he does not get the same comfortable atmosphere of United anywhere else easily, adding that Rooney has seen how legends like Charlton, George Best are seen at the club.
