A one-time mugger has apologised to his victim on Facebook, 35 years after the incident.

Michael Goodman said that he was a teenager when he mugged Claude Soffel in the late 1970s on the steps of the American Museum of Natural History to impress one of his friends, the New York Post reported.

Goodman, 53, accidently found Soffel, 52, on a random Facebook post about shuttered shop H and H Bagels.

Goodman, who is the son of famous astrologer Linda Goodman and Sam O. Goodman, wrote in the comments section that he has never forgotten the incident or Soffel's name, and wanted to say sorry for all the "crap" Soffel had to go through that day.

Responding to the Goodman's comments, Soffel said that he recognised Goodman's name as well and wanted to put the incident behind them.
