President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of N. Janardhana Reddy, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
In a condolence message to his wife, N. Rajyalakshmi, the President has said, "Janardhana Reddy was an esteemed colleague and a dear friend for long years. A distinguished Parliamentarian and senior Congress leader, Reddy served the nation in various capacities and made significant contribution towards the cause of the welfare and upliftment of the underprivileged. "
"In his death, the nation has lost an eminent personality, whose long years in Parliament and public service as legislator, Minister and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh will be always remembered," he added.
Reddy was suffering from liver ailment and was admitted to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). He was 80.
Reddy was the Chief Minister between 1990 and 1992 and was known for his political acumen.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha thrice from Bapatla, Narsaraopet and Visakhapatnam.
He was the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
