The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday downplayed Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's remarks with regard to his party's defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections stating that the 'Gunda -raj' in Uttar Pradesh was the cause for the Samajwadi Party's loss.
"Mulayam Singh Yadav is blaming his own party cardres and people for having ruined his prospects at the national level and for defeating his party in 2014 polls. I think it is Mulayam Singh Yadav himself and his party which is in power in Uttar Pradesh which has ruined its own chances by misgoverning Uttar Pradesh, by unleashing 'Gunda -raj', " BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao told ANI.
"I think if there is anyone to blame it is the Samajwadi Party," he added.
Addressing party workers on the birth anniversary of Ram Mahohar Lohia on Monday, Yadav had claimed that his party workers had let him down in the Lok Sabha polls.
The SP supremo further alleged that along with the Congress he could have formed the government at the Centre with 40-45 seats.
