Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, on Sunday announced that his party, which currently rules Uttar Pradesh, will ensure free education, free medicines and treatment to people.
Addressing an election rally at riot-hit Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav made an effort to woo voters ahead of polls, ensuring free availability of essential services.
"Education will be made free, medicine will be made free. Be it cancer, heart disease, kidney disease or liver disease, the treatment for all these will be made free. If somebody has any of these diseases, I will ask my fellow leaders to note down the names of such people. Despite the severity of the disease, full expense will be met by the government," Yadav said.
In his effort to attract the votes, Yadav also assured the enhancement of living conditions of Muslims as recommended by the Sachar Committee.
"As suggested by the Sachar Committee, conditions of Muslim community will be made better. They will be given employment, their businesses will be promoted, and we would not let them bear any more losses."
Sachar Committee was appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2005 for preparing report on social, economic and educational conditions of Muslim community in India.
More than 50 people died and over 40,000 were displaced when clashes between Hindus and Muslims erupted in the prosperous sugarcane district of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh in early September 2013.
While some have returned to their homes, others have remained in makeshift relief camps, fearful to return .
Supreme Court has slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for its failure to contain such riots.
