Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have condemned Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav for his remarks that the Uttar Pradesh Government can't check every crime taking place in the state.

Mulayam had also said that the least number of rapes takes place in Uttar Pradesh, which has a huge population of 21 crore people.

Condemning his statements, BJP leader Prabhat Jha told ANI, "The 21 crore people of UP have brought Mulayam Singh Yadav and his party to power. Whoever is in the government, it's their responsibility to protect the people of the state. Governments don't work on such statements. That's why I don't agree with what he says."

Another BJP leader Nalin Kohli also told ANI, "I don't know why Mulayam Yadav always comes up with these statements. Whether it's about boys will be boys or should rapists be hanged. As the ruling party of Uttar Pradesh, he and his party and especially his son as the Chief Minister must ensure proper law and order. They must punish the guilty."

"Unfortunately, more incidents come to light that where somehow criminals are associated with the Samajwadi Party. This is regrettable and condemnable," he added.
