An FIR has been lodged against Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam on Sunday for addressing a rally of hawkers in Malad without getting prior permission from the police.
While addressing a press conference here, Nirupam alleged that he was being targeted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) because of his support to the hawkers.
"The BJP registered an FIR against me just because I went to show solidarity with the hawkers," said Nirupam.
He added, "The MNS goons are active since past few days, but no FIR has been registered against them".
Earlier on Sunday, Nirupam addressed a rally of hawkers who were evicted forcibly by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in Malad.
After the rally, the hawkers allegedly attacked a group of MNS workers, in which one of them was seriously injured.
After the horrific Elphinstone foot overbridge stampede that claimed 23 lives, the MNS has taken up strict actions against the hawkers operating outside railway stations.
