The five accused arrested in connection with the gangrape of a photojournalist were today taken to Shakti Mills compound to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the heinous crime.

Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy, who along with his team inspected the spot, said that recreating the crime scene would help them in the probe.

"Today, we have recreated the scene of crime. The accused have been brought here and they have demonstrated before us the manner in which the crime was committed. This is an important part of the investigation and it has brought clarity about the manner in which the crime was committed and the sequence of events," said Roy.

"We are doing everything that needs to be done to build a waterproof case against these heinous criminals and make sure that they are brought to justice so that the women of this great city feel safe and secure and such people are not allowed to roam free to commit such crimes," he added.

All five accused - Salim Ansari, Vijay Jadhav, Chand Babu Sattar Shaikh, Mohammed Kasim Hafiz Shaikh alias Kasim Bengali and Siraj Rehman Khan - are in the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch.

The incident took place on August 22 in Lower Parel area where the 23-year-old woman, an intern with an English Magazine, had gone for an assignment.

According to police, the men tied up the friend who was accompanying her and raped the woman.

The victim, who was admitted to Jaslok Hospital, has recovered from her injuries and has been sent home.
