Mumbai Police have launched an initiative to make police stations in the city tobacco-free.

Bollywood actors Raveena Tandon and Vivek Oberoi inaugurated the program at the Police Club of the Azad Maidan police station on Friday.

Oberoi, who is the brand ambassador of the Cancer Aid Patient Association (CPAA), appealed to the policemen to get over tobacco addiction.

"Tobacco consumption is like paying an EMI (Easy Monthly Installments). The more you keep consuming it, the sooner the day will come when it takes you away from your family", said the actor, who has battled tobacco addiction in the past.

The event was organized by CPAA, which in its report highlighted occupational stress as the key reason behind tobacco consumption among police personnel in India.

The report further said that nearly 70 percent among 3,000 police officers in the city consume some or the other form of tobacco product, while 35 percent were found to have precancerous lesion and condition.

The other dignitaries in attendance included former Mumbai Police Commissioner P S Pasricha, Chairman and CEO of CPAA Y K Sapru, Joint Commissioner Mumbai Police (Admin) Anup Kumar Singh and Joint Commissioner (Crime) Atulchandra Kulkarni.
