Mumbai: Protestors form human chain in support of Jallikattu

As many as 500 Jallikattu supporters gathered in Chembur to form a human chain in support of the bull taming sport.

A protestor told ANI, "About 500 people are here already and more are expected. We want Jallikattu. this is a 4,000-year-old game, linked with Tamil heritage and culture, the bull is part of their homes, and not some wild animal."

"Throughout the year, we tend to them, worship them on the day after Pongal and play with them later", he added.

"Our plea to the government is to support us in this fight against the Supreme Court ban. We are your people, your voters. We demand Jallikattu", he said further.

 

On Monday, more than 200 youth were taken into custody while protesting in Alanganallur village over the ban.

The Tamil Nadu Government has urged the Centre to issue an ordinance to allow the sport of Jallikattu.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselam, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and urged him to promulgate the ordinance.
