Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has reportedly appointed former women's world number one Amelie Mauresmo as his new coach.
Murray, who will start the defence of his Queen's club title next week before defending his Wimbledon crown, said that he is excited by the possibilities of the new partnership and Mauresmo, who is currently France's Fed Cup captain, is someone he has always looked up to and admired.
According to the BBC, Murray said that Mauresmo has faced adversity plenty of times in her career, but was an amazing player and has won major titles, including Wimbledon.
The Scot said that he has a very strong coaching team already in place, but he thinks that Mauresmo brings with her experience and tactical expertise and would push them all to improve.
Murray said that he wants to win more Grand Slams and is convinced that Mauresmo joining the team would help them push on.
Meanwhile, Mauresmo said that Murray had first contacted her a few weeks ago and it was a bit surprise, adding that it is a big story and a step forward for female coaches.
The Frenchwoman further added that she is happy about the new challenge and wants to help Murray, who has been without a coach since the departure of Ivan Lendl in March.
