Wimbledon champion Andy Murray's mother has said she hoped that the Scottish town of Dunblane, which was the scene of a horrific shooting in 1996, gets a positive boost from the on-court triumphs of her son, who was a pupil in the school where the shooting took place.
A gunman opened fire in the gymnasium of a Dunblane school, killing 16 schoolchildren and an adult (a teacher) in 1996, before killing himself.
According to The Scotsman, Judy Murray said the Dunblane massacre was the one point in the lives of her sons which was not happy or idyllic, with Murray often remarking that the incident had affected him profoundly.
However, the captain of the British Fed Cup team said that she hoped that the townspeople of Dunblane gets a positive influence from Murray, who has moved on from his scars of the tragedy to become the first person from the UK to win the Wimbledon after 77 years.
Murray's mother further said that she believes the town community has come closer after the incident and has recovered from it 'very well'.
