Britain number one Andy Murray has backed Australian teen star Nick Kyrgios, describing him as a nice guy and should be allowed time to mature and thrive.

Kyrgios was given a code violation warning for an audible obscenity by the chair umpire during the first set against Murray.

Murray, who trounced Kyrgios in straight sets at Australian Open quarter-final match, said that the Australian star was only going to continue to mature and improve in that respect as he gets older, adding that he just needs to be allowed to grow up, Sport24 reported.

Commenting on Kyrgios on-court antics, he said that he gets frustrated with himself and sometimes says things he shouldn't, but everyone has done that in some way when they're 19, the report added.

Kyrgios became the first teen male to advance to the round of quarter-final multiple times since Roger Federer in 2001.
