World number two Andy Murray continued his quest of clinching maiden China Open title by battling past fellow countrymen Kyle Edmund in the men's singles event here on Friday.

The Briton edged a tight first set in a tie-break and trailed 2-0 early in the second, but reeled off six games in a row to register a 7-6, (11-9), 6-2 win over Edmund in the last eight contest that lasted one hour and 49 minutes.

Murray will next face Spain's David Ferrer in the semifinals for a place in the summit showdown.
