The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organised a cultural music show in Kashmir with a view to provide an adequate platform for young and budding talent in the valley while reviving an interest in traditional songs and music.
"There is no dearth of talent here. But due to existing circumstances and other factors, they have not received the kind of patronage they should have. If they remain here, we will ensure that we will do whatever we can to provide maximum help not only at the state level, but also at the national level. They can make Kashmir proud," said member of the academy Mohammad Ashraf Taak.
Tremendous performances falling in the category of light, folk and Sufiyana music mesmerised the audience.
Young performers said they were optimistic that the programme would provide them with a platform for building their future.
"First of all, new talent like ours is encouraged to perform outside also. And, when other youngsters watch us on TV, they also get motivated, and through these programmes, our art also remains alive," said a budding performing artiste and singer from the valley, Aaqib.
Sufiyana has an age-old history. The audience had a wonderful time listening to the songs.
"This step by our cultural academy is worthy of praise," said Manzoor Mir, who watched the programme.
The academy received over a hundred applications from young singers, but only twenty were selected for the event.
