Muslim devotees across Bangladesh offered Munajat (supplication for repentance of sins and or connotation of conveying reverence to a sanctified person), sought the blessings of the divine for peace, progress and prosperity of the country, besides the welfare of the Muslim Ummah at the Baitul Mukarram national Mosque in Dhaka on the occasion of Eid -ul-Azha on Monday.
Eid-ul-Azha is the second biggest religious festival for all Muslims, and is celebrated with due solemnity and religious fervour.
On the occasion, Muslims across the country offered prayers in congregations and sacrificed animals in the name of Allah.
Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated on the 10th of the Zilhajj month of the Hizri Calendar, as Hazrat Ibrahim offered to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail some 4000 years ago on this day.
The Almighty, however, spared Hazrat Ismail,and instead sent a ram to be sacrificed.

To commemorate this historic event, the Muslims all over the world slaughter sacrificial animals and draw inspiration from the unique example of sacrifice to please Allah as shown by Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismail.
Millions of people have already left the capital and other major cities to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones in the countryside.
Railway stations were overcrowded, as were bus and other launch terminals, as home-goers headed for their respective destinations.
A three-day Eid holiday began yesterday. Newspaper offices will also remain closed until October 7.
